Ten things from chapter 2




1.       Danish navigator named Vitus Bering was the first know person serving Russia to travel to Alaska in 1741.
2.       There were no slaves in Russia, but half the countries populations were in a state of bondage.
3.       Peter was the modern czar and was hated by many.
4.       Bering was not the first known Russian to step foot on but was in fact Chirikov by about a day.
5.       Spaniards wanted to take control of Alaska, but lacked the military power.
6.       The Americans traded guns to the Alaska natives that didn’t think kindly of the Russians.
7.       Many people were taken to Alaska against their will and some say people waited outside bars to take them on the ship and by the time they awoke it was too late.
8.       Rezanov who fixed many of the discrepancies that many had: such as wages, bonuses, and restrained men from excessive drinking.
9.       Russia was able claim a territory in California, because they knew that Spain wasn’t well enough equipped to force the Russians out.
10.   The newly retired Baranov, on his way back to Russia got a fever and died in the south sea on April 12, 1819.
